and get a chain gauge to check for stretch. (£7)

You may well want to get a new cassette too if you've had the same chain on for 2 years, depends on the miles in that time and how much the old chain has stretched.0 -
I had a KMC chain snap recently a while ago - it had only done a few hundred miles and one of the side-plates on the quick link gave out. One way to minimise the chance of a chain snapping is to prevent side-loads by avoiding extreme cross-over between your chainring and sprockets.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

You could try a Wipperman chain.0

In my experience, a 10 speed chain is unlikely to last more than 2500 miles if you are lucky.
I would have thought that a 2 year old chain would probably necessitate a new cassette and possibly new chainrings depending on mileage.0 -
I have the same fear myself. I have just built a 10 speed using a shimano chain. I wasn't too impressed with the minute insertion depth of the link-pin. I weigh 240 lbs so I'm going to be very cautious on my first few runs.
I'm looking for a Wipperman connex 10 spd link but all the retailers seem to be out of stock
Chains don't stretch but the links can wear .I may try a 9 speed chain as the difference in thickness is miniscule0
