Bike Building and compatibility with campag components

Hi, I am building a bike from scratch for the first time although I have rebuilt bikes before.
I have a Mercian frame and would like to use campag gears but their front mech band on fittings seem to be made for 32 mm dia seat tube but my seat tube is around 28.6 mm dia. Does anyone know if it is possible to adapt the band on fitting to suite the smaller dia tube i.e. file a few mm of the face of the clamp where it meets or would it fit without modificaton?
Secondly is there a formula to calculate the lenght of bottom bracket axel required for a triple chainset. I intend to use a comp triple or similar campag quote 111mm for 28.6 mm seat tube but I would have thought the width over the chainstays was to be considered?
Many thanks
John

  • Thanks for the quick reply redddragon are you offerring you mech for sale? At the moment I have not finally decided to go campy or shimano but will have to decide quick.
This is not meant to start a campy v shimano debate but if anyone really wants to.

It's a standard double mech (and I don't really know where it is), I think it was just my roundabout way of saying that you can get campag mechs in the required clamp size for your seattube.

An alternative is to use this clamp, you can then use any braze on mech of which there are plenty.
  • Thanks PHcb and Redddragon I thought there may be a neater solution than adapters.
