Im having trouble with my UST setup. I'm using new Maxxis Crossmark LUST tyres on 8 month old Mavic Crossmax ST UST rims - these have to date been used with tubes only. I followed the instructions as per mavic re soapy water etc. The front wheel hissed a bit from the valve but now seems fine but the rear wheel is leaking large amounts of air from around the spokes. The tyre bead itself is sealed.

I did notice the inside of the valve hole was slightly roughened so is this a case of the valve not sealing properly in the rim or is the rim itself defective?

Will using a sealant solve this problem?

first make sure the valve/hole is not causing the issue.

most likley to have damaged the hole when running the tubes.

Thnaks Nick - can I smooth the hole off - ie lightly sand it or similar?

probably could but be careful not to remove too much material. i would try some sealant first and see how you get on, i would recommend stans sealant any way as it will prevent punctures.

Update - started again and smoothed/cleaned valve hole with soapy water a brush and a rough cloth. Currently sealed and working. Thanks for advice.
