Advice on a bike for a 3 year old, what are my options?

I am looking for advice on what type of bike to get my 3 year old (girl). We currently have a Hamax Siesta that clamps onto my MTB. What are the options available to me can you buy a bike that converts into a tag along so it can be used separately? What types of bikes are there as well? I don’t want to get dragged into the Barbie princess/pink malarkey if I can help steer her in the right direction first of all! It would be nice if there is a bike that would enable us to do a bit of off road together.

Well there is the trail-gator but I've not heard great things of it plus it's about £50 IIRC and we bought an Adams Trail-a-bike - which is great - for £90.alibali65 wrote:What types of bikes are there as well? You could look at Islabikes; I've heard good things but I've no personal experience.

Islabikes - stunning quality. We have 2, one for a 5-7 yr old and one for a 7-9 yr old.

Like the look of the islabikes, not a barbie princess in sight!! What are the problems with the trail-gator?0

I've got a trail gator, not had any problems, with it, worked great for our eldest daughter, how is now riding on her own, put away ready for our younger daugher when she is ready0

Resuming old thread just to report on recent purchase, a trail-gator.
Got it from Tesco Direct: £55 using Tesco vouchers, so essentially free.
It took about half an hour to fit to my wife's bike, a full suspension MTB, with a small frame.
No issues, it is quite sturdy. Any reports of wobbliness might be the result of not tightening up the screws enough.
There is a quick release at the adult's bike end of the bar, which has to be nice and tight. Yet it won't prevent freedom of movement side ways or up-down.
Went today for our first ride, and my son of 3 1/2 absolutely loves it.
I uploaded a couple of videos on youtube:

He has a 12" wheel bike and the setup was right for him, the front wheel is not lifted too much and in fact it is very comfortable for him.
Halfway down to the local store, he decided he wanted to go on his own. And now he goes very quick, still using the stabilisers but I can see them coming off by the summer.
One caveat, if you don't get the flip-up stabilisers, make sure you carry a wrench to turn them upwards: you don't want the stabilisers to touch the ground when using the trailgator.
It also neatly stowes away when not in use.
Score: 10 out of 10 in my books.0 -
We have 2 Isla bikes - our 3 year old got a Rohan when he was 2 and has now mastered pedles so has moved onto the Cnoc 14 - not a stabiliser in sight. He has now given the Rohan to his little sister, who we are hoping masters the balence soon.
In our experience (and that of friends of ours) - Isla bikes are fab, they are fantastically built and really hardwearing. Plus they hold their value if you want to resell afterwards - Isla even offer a buy back in exchange for the next bike up.0 -
can echo everything said about islabikes. have recently bought a cnoc 14 for my 3 yr old which he adores. superb service and a quality bike0
