Mud in my gears!

I have already asked this question in the General forum and got some great answers. Nice to know i'm not on my own. Can any of you tech guys and girls help with this one?

I'm not a fair weather biker. As a consequence on wet muddy days my front derailure gear mechanism gets full of mud and then wont change gear properly. Do you have this problem? Any ideas on how to solve it?

First of all, is it the mud in the mech itself that's causing it to stick, or is it mud running down an open cable (under the down tube), into the casing further down? If you have this set-up (open cable into cased cable) it can be solved by running fully cased or fully sealed cables.

Secondly, what bike do you ride? If the front mech is behind the seat tube (as in a Commencal Meta), you could try fitting a makeshift mud guard between the rear wheel & front mech (similar to the guards you can buy for Stumpys).

If neither of those are the problems, I can't help!

wash your bike, chose better lines, find deeper puddles.
