Hi everyone,
Im hoping to upgrade my mountain bike with some new mechanical disc brakes but im 14 and money isnt too easy to come by so they have to be good value for money and not too expensive.
I have a Jamis cross country 1.0 (2007) if that is any help, i dont know what size rotors i need and stuff like that so could i please have some advice on that aswell,
thanks alot,
liam

Dunno what you mean by not too expensive but Avid BB7s are meant to be very good and don't seem expensive to me.0

Well for the money this is a cracking deal, although it's only a single brake.. But it's a good name and alot more likely to not be crud.

For a pair you could try:

But stay are from:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=9109 - Just so as you know - DO NOT buy these, they may look good but trust me, your better off with no brakes at all as a pose to these.
And a 160mm rotor will do you just fine, unless of course your planning on following steve peat somewhere
I see by a pic that your bike comes with front disk brake mounts, but are there some on the back?0 -
do the wheels have disc hubs?0

Another vote for Avid BB7. Incredibly easy to set up and work really well.

I've looked at the specs, doesnt have disc hubs, nor does it seem a disc mount on the frame. A disc upgrade would require a new wheelset.
Unless you plan to heavily upgrade, I'd stick with V brakes.0 -
Thanks everyone for the replys,
Yes My bike does have front and back disc mounts,
No i do not have Disc hubs on my wheels so i am gona have to get new ones, so anyone know some that are good and not too expensive,

Best you may do if you want discs and wheels is to get them as a set, ie http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=category&categoryId=112, going to be cheapest, but you are looking at £160 for wheels and hydraulic discs.
Not sure if you can do it cheaper than that.0 -
Some cheap wheel sets

and these

Wheels: AdamBM that suggested from CRC.
Brakes: BB5 or BB7 160mm rotors, depending of you budget.0 -
Hi again,
Are these any good?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kooka-Front-180mm ... .m14.l1318
they seem quite cheap for front and back

they are ok, but not much better than your vs. Do you really need discs on an xc bike?0
