I know the Focus Cayo 2008 gets rave reviews in the beginners section (and I'm seriously considering one), but would any of you go for another bike at that price? Which ones and why?

Check out the Planet X carbon pro bikes - they get good reviews too.

Dont Ribble do a carbon bike with DA for a grand too ?

Thanks. Riding my tired old Sora equipped bike is making me feel the need to spend a bit of cash and get something pretty decent...

  • Focus Cayo and Varadio - I have bought both of these bikes and to be honest the cheaper Alu Focus varadio is actually my prefered bike of the two.

It's under a grand and that gives you some scope to upgrade the rear casette to an ultegra one and still have some cash left over to buy a better wheel set and use the factory fitted ones as winter training wheels - sorted.

Ribble Nero Corsa with Ultegra on offer at £999.95.

I'm about to buy one after quite alot of research. Other contenders were Planet X SL Carbon and the Focus Cayo. All good choices.

I went for the Ribble because:
    A) I live in Preston and will get measured up in the shop. Plus keep it local etc...
    B) I've used Ribble before and always found them good
    C) The spec is excellent - full Ultegra and Shimano RS 20 wheels which have got good reviews. The Focus did well in this respect too. I wasn't sure about the Planet X wheels & brakes... they may be fine but I'm not familiar with them.
    D) Good reviews - cycling plus / bike radar did one on the Ribble. In fairness they all had good reviews.
    E) Wiggle didn't do cycle scheme (but do something similar)
    F) The Nero Corsa just looked nice! The focus seems attractive but I've never actually seen a Planet X.

You won't go wrong with any of these three.....unless it doesn't fit.
