Urinary Tract Infection
Hi Guys and Gals,
Came down 4 weeks ago with a Urinary Tract Infection, which I initially thought could have been a result of not hydrating myself properly on my daily rides... (about 30 miles per day) but no amount of antibiotics (I'm on my third different kind) seems to be killing the bacteria. Had my kidneys and bladder scanned and had blood tests to confirm that I am not diabetic. Next course of action is to go for the old camera-down-the-pee-hole thing - not looking forward to it.
Just wondering if there are any other male cyclists (of any nature) who have suffered similar and can shed some light - as it is very rare for a male of my age (33) to get it.

FWIW... I know that drinking a mix of Apple Cider Vinegar (2oz) & Water(24oz) throughout the day is beneficial to the urinary tract. I drink this mixture during the 8hr work day.... I think I'd give this a serious try before I attempted your last option.

This is not a Big Pharma drug remedy, so don't expect immediate results....give it a little time. At least it doesn't have any harmful after effect warnings ...all natural 8)Cajun0 -
Cranberry juice is also worth a try.0

I read your post and joined the forum specifically to reply.
I had exactly the same problem around 2-3 years ago - thought initially the same too, that it was down to poor hydration. Antibiotics did not work (or worked for a short period and then it came back). I changed the saddles on my bikes, but that di d not work either. I had all manner of scans and blood tests and also the camera down the old fella and the good old prostate tests, all proved negative for anything unpleasant.
The conclusion that was eventually reached was that I had "interstitial cystitis". As far as I can tell (and the doctor admitted as much), this is the diagnosis that is given when they haven't got a clue as to what the cause is. I was also advised that it generally would last 12-18 months and then disappear without a trace. After this diagnosis, I had 2 more attacks and was finally given a lengthy course of ciproflaxin (horse sized and strength tablets!), which seemed to clear it up. That was now 18 months ago, and I haven't (touch wood) had another attack.
The conclusion: it was bloody awful, really got me down, worried about something really nasty. I was 34 when it hit. If the doctors try to palm you off with the normal antibiotic, which i think is trimethroprim (or something like that) beg for Ciproflaxin (and at least a month of it). Whether that was the cure, or it had just run it's course, i don't know, but I'm well glad to be shot of it. (figers remain firmly crossed)
Hope this is of some help.0
