Hi,

I am looking for a new frameset to build up and I'm looking for a recommendation.

I have a budget of about £700-800

I'm a heavier rider (93 kgs) and want something strong enough for general training, I don't race but train fairly hard, 250 kms per week.

any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not too fussed about the make or what its made of as long as its strong.

regards

Brian :D

Van Nicholas titanium frame, carbon forks and headset from Fatbirds dont fly. Several models fall into your price range.

this has got your name wrtten all over it:

That would be my first choice in the £7 - 800 range - sweet frame, italian, well thought of by the owners on here.

bear in mind that while you might get a titanium frame in your budget you will need another £100+ for the forks.

    I like this too:

    but it's £50 over budget.

£700-£800 gives you loads of options. I'd be confused too.

I'm really liking the look of the new Kinesis Granfondo. As someone who doesn't race it looks like the perfect compromise between a race bike and comfortable long distance machine.

ooh - that is nice - the granfondo thing.

scandium with carbon stays and forks + seatpost. thats a nice frame for the money.

Kinesis make cracking bikes too. I love my KiC 2 and the guys at Kinesis are some of the most approachable, friendly and helpful folk I've ever dealt with.

The Granfondo looks even better with the colour matched forks. Apparently there's a small problem with the forks at the moment (no mudguard clearance) but Kinesis seem to have it in hand. There's a thread here about it.

Yes I have had my eye on the Gran Fondo as well. The colour matched forks with the correct clearance will be in around August time. Can't wait.

They may not be carbon, but don't overlook the Principia framesets at www.chainreactioncycles.com hastily!

    But they're 04/05 framesets! I wouldn't buy one personally.

Not knowing your riding style and how hard you ride, but for sure I'd expect to have a test ride before you commit your readies. For example, for your weight, the Van Nicholas might just be too 'soft' and feel a bit too flexy if you put a lot of power through the pedals. Some makers also put weight limits on their frames e.g. over 80kg as a limitation on their warranties.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
