My LBS has this bike in my size and has reduced the bike from £2000 to £1400.

How far have things come on since 2006? Am I better off with a 2008 bike at £1400, like a Bianchi C2C 928 or Wilier Mortirolo?

Thanks

FYI I have tried all three bikes out and feel comfortable on all of them, but this is my first road bike.

The Tarmacs have gone a bit more 'comfort' in design over the past couple if years - much taller headtubes on the 08 models where the 06 models (smart as they are - is the all red one?) are more racy.

the 928 C2C is a nice bike - and comfy too - what will the bike be used for and what spec of kit is on the two bikes?
  • I would try and beat them down in price a bit more. My LBS, a spesh dealer, tells me there already rolling out the 09 stock as spesh have run out of various 08 models.

    Its the Gerolsteiner colour scheme.

Ill be using the bike for cardio interval training, say 30 mins hard riding but also lon Sunday rides as I build up my stamina.

thats a nice looking bike - i Like them a lot.

what spec is the tarmac - i mean groupset - I imagine it is at least ultegra?

If it is short fast rides then the tarmac would be good - if you were looking at participating in a couple of sportive type rides I'd have said look at the C2C more seriosly

would say 1400 is over the odds, ilove the 06 mind you, prefer them over the newer frames fro the look.

Seen experts go for 600 quid onebay second hand, so wouldnt pay that new :S

    MTB - Trek Fuel 80

I've seen the Tarmac Expert 08 complete bike, with Shimano Ultegra-SL and Fulcrum 5 wheels go for 1800 quid in evans the otherday on a special. the 09 gets shipped next month i think so the 08 and below should be cheap

Cant you still get a carbon and dura ace Planet X for a grand ? So I'd think 1400 for an older bike is a bit pricey.

i'm not sure that it such a good comparison though - Ok the equipment is the same but one frame is a race winner while the other is a cycle-to-work favourite.

not saying the PX isn't a good frame but I don't think it is a good comparison to make.

Planet X has a pretty good reputation - they have done ok in the premier calendar, and they've won ironman races too, and lots I havent heard of too ?

Plus - the carbon TT bike was used in the tour under different stickers. Brad McGee I think ?

Even better - Cadel Evans, with a stage win to boot (after Vino was kicked out).
