When is the best time of year to buy a bike?

I'd always thought September was the best time of year to get a bike, with new lines just around the corner. However, there seems to be tons of bargains at the moment, perhaps this is largely down to the current economic climate.
What do you guys think is the best time of year to buy a bike?

Normally I'd have said anytime from August onwards if you aren't bothered about getting next season's model.
That said, I think you've hit the nail on the head - people aren't going to be parting with their cash as readily at the moment so the price cuts will start coming sooner.
I've just bought a 2008 Orange SubZero at £300 under list price already... :shock:0 -
august sept when they start getting discounted for the new stuff.
but as dave said there are some 08 bikes already on offer now..www.bearbackbiking.com

if you are looking to buy a 2008 bike, don't leave it too long...as many of the manufacturers are running out of particular sizes and models (Specialized ran out of many back in May  )
as 2009 prices have jumped in some cases 15-20%, you are going to get less value for your money....
get 2008 whilst you can find one you likecheck out my riding - www.robcole.co.uk Banshee Factory Team rider, Da Kine UK Team rider, www.freeborn.co.uk www.eshershore.com0 -
I would say - buy a bike when you need one . . . . or . . . . . when you want one & see the one at the right price.
So much emphasis is put on getting end of season bargains, but:-
- this restricts you to what sizes are left
- means you get maybe 15-20% off something you might want instead of something you really want
- you can normally get 10-15% off the bike you want with a bit of negotiation when buying
- if you really want a bargain, use the advantages of Cycle Scheme.
- supporting your LBS during the year means they will offer you better deals on parts & accessories than they would, when you buy a discounted bike
