2008 giant trance 2 vs. 2008 Mongoose canaan elite

I'm trying to decide between the giant trance 2 and the mongoose canaan elite. I really want to know which bike has a lighter frame and best overall frame when considering factors such as pedaling efficiency, geometry and suspension system. Anybody have any opinions on these two bikes?

    I have a 2008 Giant Trance 3 which I presume is the same frame and rate it very highly, except... the mud clearance on the back wheel is shockingly bad. I'm always clogging up and having to get off to clear it when in sticky wet mud. Other than that I highly rate it, suspension seems to be very efficient in terms of pedal bob which was important for me. Geometry works for me as well. I would recommend it (in the dry!).
