surely you can demand a like for like bike? tell your insurance company that it was a P-X that was nicked and you want a P-X to replace it.

  • Who are you insured with?

We had our garage broken into in Feb and were insured with Churchill. We had a number of bikes insured on the policy, and each one was named (i.e men's mtb £800, road bike £400 etc). The mtb was stolen and they tried to persuade my husband that he should take a GT bike from Halfords. In the end we argued the point (the GT was not comparable to the Scott that was stolen) and managed to get a cheque for value of the bike. It took a while but we got what we wanted and what we had paid for (i.e the insurance!). I'm sure I read somewhere else on here that you are within your rights to ask for the value of the bike, rather than accept a replacement but don't quote me on it!

    Good luck!
