Just ordered one of these little systems to go through some Bose 301s.

Should sound pretty good I think.

Not into ipods or music downloads - they are usually too small in file size and half the music gets lost (unless you get some serious kit and software).

Now the painful wait for delivery...:D

Anyone else into their HiFi stuff? Not worried about £10k+++ mega systems (luckily!) but like pretty good sound quality.

    Very nice 8) 8)

Dad's an ex pro bass player (toured with Thin Lizzy as their support band, etc) so I have rather a taste for decent systems. Shame I can't play anything more than a CD player though!

Nick - I can immediately tell you are about ten times more "serious" than I am!

However, it's suprising what decent(ish) speakers and proper cable can sound like with a half decent source.

Which to me is NOT an ipod/MP3 player!

Word. but i must say MP3 has its place. 200 trackson one CD on random play in the Van on a trip!

Fine in a car/van (unless you have a mega system) but not good enough for a big room!

My last car had a 6 CD changer - so it could more or less "hold" 150ish tracks.
Current cars only have single tray CD players - oh well!

MP3 player + FM Transmitter = Many Many tracks in the car .

Indeed but many many temptations for tealeaves too.
Having had a few nice stereos nicked, I just get decent speakers fitted through a hidden amp to a standard head unit (as long as iit's not too dire) - tealeaves ignore it.

    got two words for you

    squeezebox

    and

    FLAC

I have a squeezebox connected to a nad 320bee and some kef Q3's in the lounge, and a squeezebox with some Acoustic Energy Aego M's in my kitchen diner. Gives me syncronised audio around the house, and can access all of my 14000 tracks 8)
  • My old HiFi died a few months ago so I spent £130 on a new Cambridge amp. Not a lot of money, but I was AMAZED at the increase in sound quality. I started hearing parts of music that I never knew existed! Just finished uni and started a new job, so some new speakers with nice cables are very high up on the list!

Kef do some cracking speakers I have an old pair of Coda 10's and still sound sweet despite years of abuse (wife loves Wham!). Couple of years ago treated myself to a Denon Surround Sound amp, DVD player and iPod cradle along with £300 pounds worth of cabling. Sound is amazing compared to the old Pioneer equipment it replaced. Matched the Kef speakers to some Q Acoustics speakers that I'd never heard of before but the sounded deeper and clear then the Kef speakers. Spent the a whole afternoon swapping speakers and amps at the dealers before we got the perfect mix but worth every second.

If you are going to invest big then make sure it all works together perfectly.

The Teac's are very nice, I had the MD player like that but the next size up a few years back. Better than a lot of full size hifi separates.
Now I just have a nice Denon AV amp, a decent set of Tannoy 5.1 speakers and Paradigm sub with my DVD player and Laptop. MP3 is fine as long as the bit rate is high and sent to the amp via optical.
Good speaker cables also make a huge improvement, went for QED my self.

Real - Dad gave me the 301s a while back with very decent (but not sure what make) cable - they sound very good but the current 25 watts (little Teac all in one micro system - good sound but a bit weedy) doesn't really push them hard enough.

This system has 45 watts (Teac do "proper" watts, not some daft PMPO cack) so should sound a lot better. Looks better too!

Craig - that really is doing it "properly!"

Those speakers should go well with the Teac. Your right about the watts, 45 should be good, you have to laugh when you see the cheap things advertised as 1000 mega watts etc.
Its as bad as the full sus mtb,s for £80 lol

    Nice one, enjoy :D
I look at a good sound/AV system as an investment which should give many happy years listening.

I have 5 wharfdale rubiance mahogany speakers with a denon av1802r amp in champagne gold, quite a nice sound not really lacking in any area.

All rigged up to my pc and 32" lcd of course.

And i have an ipod with ultimate ears super fi pro5's iem headphones, great sound especially the alac tracks, but most of it is ripped from cd so at least 320kbps or above.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

i'm saving up for an Onkyo 7.1 HDMI Surround system with Tannoy Speakers to go with the PS3 and MAC atm ... (the website is down atm) ... But i found it for £400 all in :D Need more ££££££££ tho :(

My bro in law has a little Onkyo micro system - stonking value for money and won a few awards in the HiFi press.

Dazza - sounds good (literally I should think)! But suprised you don't have a full Linn system with stadium quality PA and a TVI Audio speaker array!

Real - that's exactly how I persuaded the wife!!

Don't be sucked in with the HDMI is best lark because it isn't. It's the easiest to connect but my kit all has HDMI and I reverted back to Component and get more vivid colour and use Optical for audio since most of my music is digital anyway.

But if you wish to use the HD sound formats then HDMI is the only way. but a Onk and speaker package for 400 notes will not be converting the HD sound formats.

Quite strangely, despite being quite into good sounds systems, I din't give two hoots about TV stuff.

Our DVD player has been sat in a corner since we moved here (over two years ago) and the only reason we have a (LG 21") flat screen TV is because it takes up less room!

Very rarely watch TV, very rarely watch films. Just never really been into it.

Teac do an HDMI system too but it's not a great CD player:
