Quick question - Schwable City Jet any good?

I've been having a few problems with my hybrid of late and I'm using my MTB to commute. Not far (5 miles a day unless I take the scenic route home).

Anyway, I'm looking to get a pair of cheap road tyres for my mtb. I'm looking at the schwable city jets and also the Michelin City Protek Plus. Both are sub £13 each (my kind of price range!)

Anyone have experience with either of these?

    Hi
I've done a few thousand miles on my current set of city jets (26 x 1.50's). They are very puncture proof, the only time they have blown is when I rode over a bottle bottom that was left spikey side up (no tyre would have survived it). When they wear out I will be buying another set. Easy to get on and off my rims and very good in wet etc. Perfect commuting tyre as they are cheap, puncture resistant and long lasting.
    Carl.
  • I rate them and would go along with what the guy above said apart from the part that they are easy to fit!

Really smooth tyre and noticable increase in speed from the off road tyres I changed from.

I've been using these for commuting for the last few years and they've been pretty good. They do punture from time to time but not too much. Getting them on and off is easy (on my rims anyway).

They don't corner particularly well though so if you're a racer you may need to slow down for the corners. I've nearly, but not quite, come a cropper a few times now, even in the dry.

Thanks for the feedback on them guys :) I think I'll get a pair. My MTB was my commute untill I got the hybrid in November. Going from the hybrid back to the MTB was weird at first. It felt like I was trying to cycle a sofa (comfy seat but heavy).

  • I've done 1500 miles on mine without a puncture, don't get the 1.9 tho quite a bit of drag !
    FCN 11, Hmmm
  • I rate them. I got mine as a pair from wiggle for very little. They wear well, are fast, and pretty puncture proof. They are slippy in the wet :? compared to Specialized, but I do keep them pumped to max. Unlike El Gordo I find them OK in the dry.

I have one waiting to get fitted when my specialised rear wears out (ie through the casing)) and would buy again if on sale.

Had my first pun***re with Schwalbe CJ's this week. Just under 11 months of irregular commuting, at least once a week. Looking closely at all the bits of glass embedded in the tyre I'm amazed I hadn't had more!

They are good value, not the lightest, but the roll well and give much better speed than nobblies :D
