Hi Folks,
i'm off to grizedale camping this weekend, looks like we're stopping at Grizedale Camping and riding centre.
We're not driving so it's train upto Windemere and riding across.
1. Does anyone know if this campsite is ok, or know of any others near the forest visitors centre, baring in mind that we are not driving?
2. Does anyone know anywhere decent to eat in the evenings that are not going to rape us with a tourist bill?
3. we're doing the north Face trail on one day, is there anything a bit more hardcore/ freerideish in the forest?
Cheers,
Mark

Dunno about campsites or places to eat really. Lucy's in Ambleside is nice but not cheap.
3. The NFT will only take you a couple of hours at the most. There is some great other riding in Grizedale on bridleways which are much more hardcore than the NFT - as far as actual freeride stuff I dunno though. The three witches (i think its called) going down from Parkamoor to Satterthwaite is the best descent I have done in Grizedale - really rocky in places and seems to go on for ages.
As far as more freeride stuff there is the Whinlatter trail which apparently has a more downhill style section but that's near keswick and not very accessable without a car I don't think.0 -
where abouts is parkamoor? we're stopping just near Satterthwaite so that could be a good ride homeRide Crash Ride Again0

The pub in Satterthwaite is pretty good (it's either the Spread Eagle or the Eagles Head, summat to do with Eagles, can't remember). Other than that it's a trip into Hawkshead to the Kings Arms or the Red Lion, but you can guarantee it'll be expensive there.
If you'll PM me your e-mail I'll send you PDF of a decent days ride around Grizedale/Claife/Hawkshead which is a bit more challenging than the NFT. Or you could get the OS map for the area and plan your own out? You can't really go wrong in the Furness Fells.0 -
Couple of routes onto Parkamoor here that you may be interested in, if you go onto the bogtrotters website they've got some really good photos of rides out in that area, including Parkamoor that might give you an idea of the terrain.

I'm a bit rubbish with directions but its in Grizedale forest - over towards Coniston I think. You pass a turn off to it going left on a bridleway off a section of the NFT fire road. Follow that path for a while til you come down past some old farm buildings - steep climb up the other side then when you meet another track turn sharp left almost doubling back on yourself. Follow this over the top and all the way down to the road near Satterthwaite - it crosses over fire roads three or four times. Its really rocky in places with some pretty decent drop-offs etc - you can get some fair speed up on it as well though.0 -
The bridleway from the fire road on the NFT is signposted to Parkamoor btw ;P0
