Knackered and feeling ill today coming home (think I might have had a bug) I decided to walk up hill instead of cycle, and just take it easy. Whilst walking up I remained pretty much parallel to a postie on a RM bike who cycled up the incline.

I got to the top, switched on me camera and cycled towards the lights. I over took the postie as he was going really bl**dy slowly and beat him to the lights. 2 minutes later he wrode right past me, past the red light and into the center of the road. Got it all on camera  He actually stopped right on the usual "route" for busses and lorries. Luckily none came, and tbh he was too far out to call out to and moan at.

Think I might send the video to youtube and the link to the RM. If only for his own safety.

    He'd really appreciate that.

I would too :-) I had some tw@t today push his way between me and the cyclist waiting next to me at some red lights round the corner from Vauxhall to RLJ......I wouldn't mind but the lights changed within 10 seconds and I'd just about caught him by the next set. He went straight through those tho and onto the traffic island to follow the bike paths then, obviously brave (or stupid) enough to RLJ but can't handle that busy intersection!

It gets even funnier. Switched the camera on and cycled down the cycle lane around the back of town and this woman was walking in the cycle lane. Got her clearly on camera shaking her head at me - from what I presume to be anger. I dont thing she realised where she was walking.

Then as I get off and press the pedestrian crossing button a young girl with her mate in the car drive halfway across as its turning red, wait for the driver on the other side to move and then proceeds to do a u-turn on the crossing as it beeps. :? I have her clearly on camera too, plates and all I think.

**COUGH** YOUTUBE **COUGH** I really wish I had a helmet cam sometimes, but having said that even cyclist's can get it wrong sometimes as I have to ashamedly admit to walking on the cycle path on Vauxhall Cross yesterday when on lunch and having a cyclist come round me, I felt terrible and I'm usually so careful!

Also at the weekend whilst on a charity ride I had to brake halfway round a corner after 2 other cyclist's ahead of me had stopped next to each other on a blind turn on a gentle descent :x Glad I was paying attention and not just barreling down otherwise I think my ride would have finished early

Hmm just thought. I could have "black mailed" this young woman :lol::lol:

I'll try and edit some tonight. I have a mass of material I want to lump together. I need to make some "idiot" music - Steptoe and Son springs to mind. Esp after getting stuck behind a council lawnmower on friday

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAWl11FBwfA I have dubbed it Postman Prat  Sent an email to RM too. We'll see what they say. Deliberately left out my home details apart from postal code.

Expect some response along the lines of making every effort to provide a first class delivery service to the customers of Royal Mail
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Would this be in southampton ? looking straight across would take you into spring road.

Yes it is, top of Chessel Avenue, across and the right is Spring Road. Part of my usual commute home although I've started varying it to get some different scenery

    (ooh, first post)

Errrrmmmm, hate to say this, but the post office might be able to use the postal code to work out where you live. Mind you, given the performance of our local posties....maybe not.

So is Chessel an easier ride uphill than Athlestan?

I hate that hill, well the last little bit anyway, a real toil after a day at work but great fun on the way to. Can't find any way to get from work to home without encoutering one big hillclimb... quite an annoying feature of Southampton.
Don't get too close as a broken tail light often offends...

anyone can find out 'where you live' with a postcode - thats what its for

So downfader contact Royal Mail and ask for this employees postcode then you can go round to his place and point out the error of his ways or would you rather he lost his job ?

I've never done athelston on the cycle, just don't fancy the look of the final climb after a long steady climb. Chessel is two gradients, first is moderate steep, but long, followed by very shallow (recovery time before the lights). Athelston looks to be a shallow to moderate climb most of the way followed by "oh my god steep".

Chessel is also pretty quiet, unlike athelston... and I want to go down Spring Road so it's convenient. I'll give it a go on Friday if I remember to go home that way and let you know!

is indeed. Got the road wrong as I was suffering a migrane. Aclucas is right, it is Chessel. Chessel is quite a bit easier on a proper hybrid with decent ratio gears imo.

rhext, very true, but with around a hundred houses sharing it they prolly wont bother trying to find me

Kyrotek - I have to confess to walking up either hill usually. After a full days work I'm usually too wrecked to climb it on wheels. :(

saveswalking - I would doubt he would lose his job. I've had to complain about RM staff in the past (unrelated - but aggressive staff) and have always said it'd be better a word in the ear than a p45.

What makes me laugh is when fellow Southamptoners moan about Pompey and call it a s***hole. Makes you wonder if they a) open their eyes and b) its a case of pot.. kettle.. Southampton is a dump in places, bad roads (poorly planned and quality of road surfacing), little chavvy types running amok.. I could go on. :?

I'll have to get a helmet camera so you can see the regular parade of clueless pikies and half wit chavs I see every day.
Today for example I passed a guy riding a gaspipe special,on the wrong side of the road,no helmet, going on and off the pavement jumping lights and best of all riding in flip flops
before some idiot pipes up and says thats not a real cyclist.... well he was on a bike and riding it on the road( sometimes) so in my book that makes him a cyclist.
The gear changing, helmet wearing fule.

    Flip flops!

Man I hate that kind of footwear. Who the hell thought flops were a good idea when they invented them

No disrespect meant to anyone but as far as i can see that youtube doesn't show him going through a red light at all. Ok i guess you could work it out if you know how long the RL phase is, but as it is it just shows you stopping after the light turned red, and a postie going past some time later when the light is out of shot.

I suspect that may be the basis of the RM response (and no i don't work for them and haven't done in the past)
Morning route (when i don't get the train)

    Evening route ,

Further up in the distance is another set of lights - not so visable on the youtube compressed video, but just visable on my original file. He has definately gone past the lights. I do accept that the youtubeness lets it down somewhat.
