Hi,

I've seen the price of Assos chamois cream and was wondering if anyone has tried a cheaper alternative.
Has anyone tried vaseline instead?
I think it could do a similar job.

thx
R

Conotrane, from Boots. Recommended by audax riders - who know just a little bit about very long rides and sore bits.

    +1 for Sudocreme.

Used Udderly Smooth for a bit which was pretty good if a bit thin.

    Hi forum people

If I start out on a ride from home I use sudocrem :D:wink:

and believe it or not  If I go for a ride straight from work I use the 'after work' barrier cream

Might sound weird  :? but it does an excellent job :D

I have done more riding this year than probably over the last 3 or 4 years and was having serious problems with chafing. I tried vaseline, Sudocreme and Savlon all to no avail. The only thing that has worked for me is the Assos cream. Yes it is a bit pricey, but what cost comfort on a long bike ride? Got me through a 3 day 600k ride with no problems recently.

I pay £8 at my LBS for a tub of Assos cream. It lasts me ages. Surely that's a small price to pay for comfort?

They've developed a proper chamois cream now which has had very good reviews. I'm getting to the bottom of a tub of Assos so I'm going to order that next to try.

You can get it at Wiggle and a few other places.

With the new gel inserts in shorts is all the cream not a hangover from the old days of chamois inserts? Having been brought up on real chamois and similar I have no problem with the new form of gel shorts and surely cleanlines and quick washing after a race or ride or whatever is better than reliance on creams and snake oils.

Just a thought and no doubt it will open up a can of worms.

Assos for your shorts and sudocrem for you (epecially after a ride).

I have a few pairs of different modern shorts (Assos etc) and I find that on a decent length ride there is still a bit of friction down there.

The cream make a big difference to comfort even with good shorts IMO. No matter how good the insert it will still get a bit abrasive after absorbing sweat (etc!) for a while.

Have been using Sudocrem but recently got some of the Udderly Smooth stuff from wiggle. Only used it for a short 20 mile run so not sure whether it's actually better but it certainly feels nicer to put on than Sudo!

ive been using the udderly sMOOth cream too, pity it does only last 20miles. tho never used teh sudo cream nor assos. so would sudo or assos last for a real hot/wet 40-60mile ride or still need to reapply?
