Stick with the stock DT Swiss x430s or chuck on some Fulcrum Red Metal 5s?

Is this a worthwhile upgrade? Is it even an upgrade? Should I push the boat out and get some 3s instead?

Plenty of reviews out there but it's the comparison I'm interested in.

Any advice welcome.

  • fulcrum are a bit of a new one to mountain bikes tbh, nowt wrong with DT430s a good rim, i'd stick and spend the money elsewhere.

I would say the are similar quality really, maybe he 5 a touch more expensive. What do you want from your wheel, out and out light weight?

Weight's not an issue...to be honest I just fancy rubbing a bit of funk on my Stumpjumper FSR.

Just sold my hardly used road bike and fancy splashing the cash on some upgrades for the MTB. Was thinking chainset or wheels.....

Stay clear of Fulcrum, they have one distributer for parts in the UK who has been really slow sourcing me a part so far. Other option is to buy from the US and pay £17 for a nut.

I'd go for something more euro friendly like Hope or Mavic (more common to if you need donor parts/service, my LBS didnt know sweet fa about fulcrum and couldnt help me).
