The Bicycle Works, Argyle Place, is recommended.0

+1 for the Bicycle Works. Cheap, fast and know their onions. They cut down my steerer on the spot for free once when EBC wanted £5 and a weeks wait. They build good wheels too. Always my first stop for repairs I can't do myself0

I'd recommend the bicycle repair man in newington.
Will turnaround most things within a day if parts are available.0 -
Another vote for Bicycle Works. My mate put me on to them and they built up my bike royally. I am going through this week to get them to fit a spoke and true my wheel. They really know what they are about.Brian B.0

i prefer glentress hub where they are quick and effective on bike work for good price.0

Glentress is 25 miles from Edinburgh.
That's only about £10 return fare in petrol with your mtb on the back. Hell, you needen't even ride it qhile you are there, you can simply buzz past roadies on the A702 at about 75mph on that straight bit on the way back.
I know a good cycle shop in Edinburgh - Dales Cycles in Glasgow.
Bicycle Repair Man. Plus plus good.0 -

I know glentress is 25 miles away however I do go to Glentress every week hence it is not a problem for me. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who don't go to glentress as much.
BTW Dales Cycles sucks!0 -
Can't disagree with you about Dales. Pretty good for sourcing shiny swanky stuff, but I always got the impression that they were probably one of those shops who'd tell you that you needed to get a new [insert servicable part] rather than incur the liability of fixing it, but I never did anything than order small parts from them, so I could be wrong.
Lots of clean cut young employees in matching t-shirts; personally I prefer eccentric bike mechanics who are impossible to understand (I also lived in deepest Devon for a while!) but who return your bike with the stubborn problem miraculously repaired for the cost of labour and a washer you didn't know you'd left off when you tried to fix it yourself.
(And who manage not to tell you that you shouldn't have tried to fix it yourself)0 -
Another place to recommend - BikeStation (http://www.thebikestation.org.uk/), you can hire a fully equipped workstand for 3 pounds a hour where you can fix your own bike. Don't worry you get an expert help/advise if you are stuck on something.
