What are the yellow tabs hanging from the left chainstay on all Le Tour bikes?

They're transponders put on by the race organisers to get the positions and times of the riders at the finish quickly.

Obviously not linked into the results they show on telly though, as they had Kirchen as 3rd a couple of days ago, having seen the Green jersey come in 3rd.
    - except it was Freire, as KK was in Yellow and so Freire was riding in Green
That must have been done by Mk1 eyeball I think.

I bet the results up by transponder isn't that quick either.
Presumably they have transponders on all the spare bikes on the team cars and Mavic, and it must take a bit of sorting-out if a leader crashes and a domestique gives them their bike. How many times did Rasmussen swap bikes in the TT a couple of years ago - 7, 8, 9 ?

But yes, it'll be the only way to give proper results when a bunch of 90 come in at the finish.
