Hey people!

my first post woo..

Hmm, anyway.

I have an old k2 proflex full suss which i've recently started to use on some XC trails with a friend, as i had some semi slicks before i went out and bought myself some kenda nevegal tyres for it.. Since then I've realised that these are quite heavyweight tyres(unless i'm being stupid) I found them quite hard going, especially as i'm not that fit and I was hoping you lovely people could advise me if putting something like a maxxis hi roller on the back would be a good idea and much of an improvement or if i should get a pair to make my life easier. would these mke much of a difference? We're planning on riding Cwm Carn this coming weekend and if the weather is dry it might be a good option

I would stick with the Nevegals'. Good all round XC tyre. Mountain bike tread is almost always going to be heavier than semi slicks so it's most likely something you'll have to become accustomed too.

You could always try running a slightly skinnier tyre at the back, say a 1.9' if you've got a 2.1' upfront, but it won't make masses of difference.

fair enough, i think the fact that i currently have a Nola NR-1 on the back and some old RST elastomer forks probably affects things even more. i have a merlin on the way though so hopefully i won''t have to worry so much about this one :D thanks for your advice :D
  • Hahah, I have a set of the mahoosive RST461DH dual crown forks on my old Kona - they're positively laughable compared to the mid range Marzocchi Bombers on the new bike.
Elastomers... eh, what were we all thinking back then?
    Kona Dawg Deluxe ('07)
    Kona Lava Dome ('95)

Losing weight and (slowly) getting fitter...

guess thats ebay for you tho, vintage forks eh, still frame cost 100 so not too bad ;-)

haha, i'm looking forward to getting my Merlin, esp as were expecting lots of climbing this weekend, i'm thinking that i'd like to do up the k2 a bit, have a float R i want to put on it, ahve to make some bushings to fit on the lathe first though.. then i think forks will be the next thing i'll change. assuming i'm still even using it when the other bike turns up.
