Garmin Geko 201 workflow

I got myself a Garmin Geko 201 a while ago but I must confess that I haven't done much with it. On Saturday I rode the Capital to Coast (Thames Ditton to Hove) with the Geko on my bars and I recorded the ride as a "Track" (to use the Garmin terminology).

So what do I do now?

I've been messing about with MapMyRide and GPS Utility. I'm assuming my best way forward is to use the Track data as a starting point, get it into something like MapRyRide and use that to create a "Route" (Garmin-speak for a chain of waypoints) which I can load back onto the Geko. I can give the waypoints simple codes to describe what's coming, etc.

Is this the right way forward? Or can the raw Track data be used to re-trace the route successfully?

The big question: if you have a basic Garmin GPS and use it to record and re-ride routes, I'd like to know what your workflow looks like. I'd like your help to understand:

- use of Tracks and Routes
- what online resources you use
- any apps that you use
- how you stitch it all together
