Yikes, they just showed Evans on BES. He looks pretty banged up. Jersey in shreds, cuts all over his arms and knees.0

Things are starting to warm up a bit on the Peyresourde.
Of course we came this way last year in the Tour - Vino foir the "stage win" - and in L'Etape. I made it up the Peyresourde but remembering it being not a lot of fun with all those miles allready in the legs. The descent the otherside, now that's another thing, very fast...Rich0 -
Whatever you think about him as a person, Riccardo Ricco in full flight in an amazing sight to see.0

Horrific/Terrific Cobra attack0

1 min lead with 20 km? Surely he's going to get caught.Le Blaireau (1)0

The GC riders seem to be playing a bit of cat and mouse here. No-one wants to chase.0

Mrs iainf obviously had a premonition and booked a late lunch to make sure he missed all this...Le Blaireau (1)0

More cat and mouse. Ricco's lucky day.0

Reminded my of '98. Looked like he's pinched Il Pirata's motorbike.
A breathe of fresh, exciting air, compared to all those formulated mountain stages of the LA years!"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Great stuff nice to see him attack, more tomorrow with luck.0

Was that celbration at the end, pointing at himself then up to the sky his way of saying "I'm the new Pantani?"0

Is "motorbike" a euphemism for "hematocrit of 55"?Le Blaireau (1)0

I think Ricco is doped. I refuse to believe anyone can do what he did in such a short distance...3-4 km left of Aspin and the speed of the attack, he could practically match the motorbikes for throttle initially he had that much in the tank,, in the drops on the big ring..he will win the TDF if he is not caught for whatever he is using..he also has the soigneur caught throwing syringes from room windows during the 2001 Giro-Pantani's soigneur the Giro 01 when pantani was found with insulin.. as his soignuer. Today was a downer, another low for cycling IMO.0

You are obviously able to read between my lines!
Would have been rather dull without a cobra in amongst those Simoni sheep.
Why would anybody assume the GCers are not doped, but carefully measured by those team monitoring doctors?
There'll be others burning up the road, a la Ricco, tomorrow. Some will receive applause, others the cynical remarks of the sceptics."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
A bit like your treatment of Lance and Marco? Or is that ironic too?Le Blaireau (1)0

Dave_1, your or I could accelerate, it's the high tempo afterwards that raises eyebrows
Still, he has a naturally high haematocrit count. I'm not saying he's clean. After all, he's maybe the most tested rider during the race, so the AFLD have their doubts. We'll see how his count holds up over 3 weeks, if he's doing the same in 10 days' time or not...
But he was allowed to go away today, not a threat on GC and so many let him go. He might have passed Lang with ease but the German had cracked and was slowing. So what we saw today was a good show but we'll have to see if he's allowed to do things like this again, he'll be marked a lot more now.0 -

I chose him to win a few days ago.

Kleber, Evans and Valverde and others were gapped not long before RR attacked...it looked quite hard and was only briefly bunched up when he jumped...looked like they had no choice but to let him go. It it looked to me like he took 20 seconds per km from his point of attack to the top...have a youtube search of Pantani in the pyrenees in 98...was identical to me where Pantani almost catches Massi on the peyresourde. I hope they test RR for exogenous testosterone etc and have people spy on his every move off the bike as I am sure he can only keep up that superiority with blood doping-everyone has two arms, two legs...nobody is that much faster, nobody! Today was rubbish.0 -

Should it be of interest, Laurent Fignon thought he was a really bad descender and was not impressed. Neither was I. The difference between his descents and the Falcon are immense. Paolo, now that is one guy who can go downhill fast.
My wife on the other hand, went outside in the garden during the descent, as she gets very scared for the lads. Maybe she has the most sense.0 -

I take your point, although when I rode through I went to see the spot. And not everyone has heard the story, which you will admit is a good one.0
