Looking for a windows xp based back-up program. One that i can set running once a week, it will check the folders i choose, see whats new and whats old, will move the new files/sub-folders (compress it too) over to an external hard drive.
As always, cheaper the better.
Thanks

I use Acronis true image and find it really easy to use and reliable, it's certainly not the cheapest though around the £20 mark.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0

Windows XP comes with it's own backup up program, try looking in accessories folder. I've used it for last 4 years at work to do our client data backups 32gb a day and it's never failed unlike the £400 program which did fail when we needed it.0

Yeah i realise its got that files and settings transfer but its a bit crap. You can't schedule, it doesn't know what's backed up already etc etc and when I want to check about 200gb of data I'd prefer something a bit better.
should have checked life hacker - i always forget that site, thanks
acronis is in that life hacker link too so sounds interesting.
thanks0 -
It can be scheduled and it can be set to only backup new and modified files. Only problem that I've had is that it is slow to restore over a network so restore local then transfer to target destination over network.
The program is NT Backup and I think you've been looking at File and Transfer Wizard.0 -
If you don't want to back up your computer system files then have a look at This is freeware version and I use it all the timehttp://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html#freeware0

ahh NT backup. not heard of that one and you are correct in guessing what i was looking at.
looking around on my computer (xp - not pro) there is no sign of NT backup.
thanks for the recommendation tony0 -
start > run > ntbackup.exe if you want to give it a go0

nope don't have it. tried start->run->ntbackup.exe earlier and its not found.
is that wierd?0 -
Actually I just re-read your previous message and noticed you have xp home edition which doesnt come with ntbackup pre-installed although it is on the xp home edition cd somewhere sorry  . Probably best to go with something non-microsoft for your backups anyway.
I've heard good things about Cobian Backup and Acronis true image from several people. I just drag and drop to my external hdd when I remember, probably not the best way though!0
