8 speed chain & 9 speed front mech

Just about to order a tiagra 9 speed front mech then began to think the 8 speed chain that will be on the bike may not be compatible with it.
Does anybody know if they will be ok or not as obviously 8 speed chains are wider than 9?

    Well yes, but while I don't know the respective widths, difference surely so minimal as to be of no relevance to front cage width?

    Hi, a 9 speed front mech will be fine for 8 speed.

    Yes, have used 105 9sp front & rear mechs very successfully with 8sp triple system using SRAM and KMC chains.

    The 105 front mech was easier to set-up than 8sp Sora...
