H/S Cartridge Bearing Fitting

I'm replacing the cartridge bearings in my friend's 11/8" Shimano STX threaded headset. How much (if any) grease do I use please? Given there's already lube inside the cartridges.

    The cartridges are probably lubed and sealed, so just a smear really to ease assembly and stop corrosion and sqeaking.
