garmin edge question

if i upload a route to an edge from memory map, will it show me a gradient profile similar to the one i can get in memory map, and can it show position on this gradient as i cycle?

    It should do. I don't use memory map, but most of the other routing software does it.

    It does but to be honest I don't find it terribly useful, I tend to mark all the summits with their height and work off that on the text display (e.g. I put the height in the name of the course point and that will appear above the distance to it.) So I can see I'm 5km away from a 520m summit, and currently altitude is 350m, etc.
