    Had the 17mph thing been verified?

    17mph not hammering it, but it's still a fair pace to be cycling through a group of people.

    In my opinion, cyclists should give way to pedestrians in the road but not if there's a real risk that it's an ambush. The only defence that I'd accept is if the cyclist had cause to believe that he'd have been attacked by a group of drunken teenagers if he'd stopped for them.

    I read that he had been going much faster than this (as shown by CCTV footage), and slowed down to 17mph, which must seem very slow on a bike costing £4750.
