There's a new interface to cycling.tv, a bit better than before but still weird and not at all user-friendly. How much advertising do they actually need to keep afloat? I guess most people aren't renewing their subscriptions.

Ummm not compatible with Firefox either... stupid sods - Firefox is only used by 20% of users.

My verdict:

I don't think they're going to last much longer if this is the best they can do. A shame really.

Perhaps that's why I couldn't get very far with it. All the prices were in $, so how much the packages are going to cost me was a little unclear. Also it didn't seem obvious which races were for USA/Canada IP addressees only and which ones, as a UK resident, I could actually have an option of watching.

I guess Eurosport will set up their own subscription based, watch-when-you-like service, then outbid CyclingTV for the web rights to the big races.

I sort of got it working on Firefox but not very well.

I only really have it running when I am on the turbo, but adverts cut in all the time. I certainly wouldn't subscribe to it though in its current guise. :(

    Is there any alternative?
    (that's a real question btw, not a smart-arse answer)

On telly there's Eurosport. On the web there's cyclingfans.com's list of feeds. Post-event you can get torrents from demonoid, mininova etc, or download from usenet via easynews.com.

Incidently, I just downloaded Firefox 3 -- superfast at loading pages!
  • Use cycling tv with Firefox no problems, Firefox 2 used the realplayer plug in & now Firefox 3 uses the windows media player 11 plug in
The only gripe I have with cycling tv is the lack of server space when its a race everyone wants to watch.

What do you mean by not powerful enough?

My oldest and slowest laptop is my designated bittorrent machine. Any bittorrent client I've used required minimal resources.

    not very technical minded sorry!

I just know it doesn't have too much space. For example Outlook and I-Tunes wont run at the same time without a major slow down.

Needs more RAM installing perhaps. iTunes is a rather memory-hungry app to have runningalongside other software.

It does catch up eventually but that isn't much use when watching a race and it is jumpy.

Do they still have that shopping programme on cycling.tv ? that was legendary
