Hi all,
I'm planning on cycling from watford to newcastle in september. I'm hopeing that some one can point me in the right direction in terms of planning the route.
My plan was to use the route that my tom tom gives me with the cycle routes setting. I have a feeling that this is proberbly not the best way to plan a route so would be grateful for any advice.
Cheers

I don't know how the Tom Tom cycle routes pan out.
You might like to comapre them with the cycle option activiated when using the www.viamichelin.com web site.
I like the recommendation be via Michelin. It sometimes fouls up. For instance it doesn't recognise that there's a cycle route over the Humber and Old Severn road bridges.0 -
I recently did London to South Shields as part of a Dover to Durness Ride.
Basically, the route I chose was:
London
Edmonton
Hoddesdon
Ware
Old A10 via Colliers End
Puckeridge
Barkway
Royston
Papworth
St Ives
Whittlesey
Spalding
Dowsby
Sleaford
Lincoln
Scampton
Stow
Althorpe
Thorne
Snaith
Selby
York
Tollerton
Northallerton
Croft-on-Tees
Neasham
Sedgefield
Trimdon Cilliery
Railway paths via South Hetton and Ryhope
Sunderland
You may need to modify the last bit to head for Newcastle.
Not the most direct route but a tolerable one to cycle.0
