help a newbie please

Hello everyone i'm 33 this year and want to start mountain biking. Need some adivce on buying a bike. Dont really wanna spend more than £500 but still want a good top spec bike.
Also when I do get a bike I need to know some good places to ride near Norwich and surrounding areas.
I am well keen on this so any advice would be great

    i bought my bike off ebay 2nd hand for £150 and spent another 200 on some new parts, doesn't work for everyone but i got nearly a 1k spec hard tail for 350 spent, must be worth a look on there, especially if your new, your likely to fall off a few times and i feel better falling off a 2nd hand than a new bike
    Why use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop
