Anyone got any tricks for getting this spot on first go?

Just taken me about 6 goes to get one side and i'm still not completely happy. Starts good, then goes pretty ropy around the hoods and then comes back again towards the end.

I'm guessing it just takes practice.

Please tell me i'm not the only one to lose an evening doing this?!

Fitting bar tape is easy, the secret is

  • My tip for a good finish is to loosen the levers a little to get the tape under the lever itself, take your time and overlap by 50%.

I'm sure this was asked before and someone gave a link to a really good demonstration on youtube
  • I think it was probably this video:

Shabby application of handle bar tape.. can make a fantastic bike look crap, you just have to make sure u get 100% of the sticky strip on the bar as close as you can to the edge of the tape and keep tension in the tape at all times.. and take care to snip the stem end at an angle so there is no lump and dont over stretch the finishing tape and most important keep the finishing tape straight.

hiya, asked the same question myself a while ago and got many responses with some great videos and step by step instructions.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I watched a couple of videos icluding the one on bike tutor and now I have fresh wrapped bars. Smelling great! Yes a bit weird I know. but it is like new cars smell.

Right side took near 3 hours to get right with about 6 re-wraps and then tonight left side has taken all of about 20 minutes!

Just shows it is all about practice.

Popette, I was doing the exact same, going from grimey white to classic black to match the new seat!
