How Long Before I Get Punched?

So today I had a word with three drivers yapping on their mobiles whilst they drove their car (or more accurately whilst their car drove itself).

A range rover that nearly mounted the kerb in front of me.

A guy in a big pickup truck that was wondering around in the road.

Another guy in a big pickup truck that changed lanes to the right of me coming along by Madame Tussauds without any indication whatsoever.

I point out that if they hit somebody and kill them and it can be shown they were using their mobile phone at the time they could get sent to prison for up to nine years.

All the guys here put their phones down, but one day presumably somebody is going to take offence.

I've gone really fundamental on this, and was even considering a little card I could hand out with a few details of death by dangerous driving involving a mobile phone.

Have I gone too far?

    Not long.

Of course, you are in the right.

But how long will you be sane if your morning commute is a crusade?

I have never, ever, ever, used warm summer days when windows are wound down as an opportunity to shout, "CALL HIM BACK LATER HE'S FUKCING DRIVING" into a driver's ear (said ear being occupied by a mobile).

    Never.

I like that. Although I would never do it either.

I hate seeing people driving whilst using a mobile. I really do. Sadly we're not the police and the best we can do I suppose is try and keep a safe distance and use video cameras incase there is a time when we wont be concious to tell the police what happened. :?

The worst offenders for using mobile whilst "driving" around here are the school run mums. My shift finishes at the same time they start to fill the roads and I always see them playing with mobiles, ipods, games consoles ( for crying out loud).

Funny that - I was thinking more along the lines of a large fridge magnet type thing I could nonchalantly stick on the back of said car printed with the words "I AM A COMPLETE CU-NEXT TUESDAY - PROBABLY BEST IF YOU KEEP YOUR DISTANCE WHILE I TAKE THIS CALL" or maybe just "KICK ME HARD" a la Dom Joly.

Pisses me off too - your small acts chip away at these peoples' misguided self-confidence, so keep it up.

We see this sort of thing every day ,i e road users on mobile telephones . I dislike the banal disruputive invasive nature of mobile phones per se and I know that this influences my reaction when I see any road user using one hand to control what was designed for two and the other on the mobile phone ... YOU ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT .

Could be a Taxi driver filling his gob with a ham roll or one of the sheeple that cross in front of you because every one else has ... ( helmets 'advised' in the HC for texters/ I-PLOD ers?)

OT - more likely get hurt some other way due to lack of concentration on the road remonstrating verbally with heavier vehcles ..
I mean can you really point out to a road user what he/she is doing or has done wrong and still be looking straight ahead ?

Today I saw a girl cycling while talking on a mobile phone. In the space of 200 yards she went through a red light, then at the next traffic lights, undertook a bus which was pointing towards the curb as the lights changed. I shouted "get your act together" as I cycled past, then immediately felt like her dad :/

I keep getting cars tailgating me on a very narrow windey (sp?!) stretch of country lane WHILE ON THEIR MOBILES.

i just slow right down to near walking pace to REALLY annoy them (and reduce any impact if I do crash).

Sadly no one has tried to punch me yet...

I see inspiration for a cycling jersey in that:
IF THE CALL WAS THAT IMPORTANT, YOU'D HAVE A CHAUFEUR.

    Another thing I never do.

I also never take an age to clip in, in front of cars who have been hassling or otherwise annoying me.

    Ever.

Safer to insult someone's mother than their driving.

Not that I'm suggesting you should do that.

If a car maintains a proper safe distance on this country lane, I pull over in one of the three little laybys and let them past. Politeness pays :D

Just ask the driver for the mobile phone he's holding.

Seriously, I think this is a really bad idea for the OP. You're approaching a group of immature assholes in powerful metallic war cyclist crushing machines and rationally critiquing their idiocy. As someone who's almost a professional pain in the ass, I feel that I know where the edge between survival and otherwise lies, and this is over that edge.
