Shimano XT (08) fitting problem

Finally got around to building up the Yeti but am having problems with the crank arm (non-drive side)

I have successfully pushed the drive side through all the way - right up to the hilt.

I correctly attached the non-drive side and preloaded the bearings with correct tool(s)

The problem is in the connecting pin (the little black bit between the pinch bolts)

I can't get it into the slot on the axle no matter what I try.. it's driving me mad.

It's almost as if the axle has not been pushed through enough but it truly has...

Hope BB by the way professionally installed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

you have fitted the plate the right way round? the open end outwards?

torque down end cap, click in the tab, tighten clamping bolts.

Yes - it's the right way in as per shimano instructions.

Have only tightened up the end cap as hard as I could by hand as I only have the basic tool which you can't attach a wrench to......

    arrrrgghh

Have you got the correct number of BB spacers in for the shell width and front mech type?

3 for 68mm and tube mounted mech
    2 for 68mm and e-type
1 for 73mm and tube mount
    0 for 73mm and e-type

    Good point splasher.

basically the guy at the LBS used the 'standard' set up of 2 spacers drive side and 1 non drive side.... however I am not even sure what width the BB shell is...

    Will check on Yeti's site....

Totally didn't think of that..... doh!

Makes you think doesn't it!?!?!? Sodding LBS

So basically it should be one spacer either side?

    EDIT... have just RTFM

That's it... I am going to buy the extra tools I need and just do it myself in future

    no one spacer total.

presuming that the cranks are the 770's and on the drive side.

    Right.

    It's the FC-M771-K

So 1x 2.5mm spacer on the drive side... sorted!

I am presuming that Hope BBs are exactly the same as the shimano HTII ones?

and you are not using a E mount front mech? or any bb mounted chain device?

Nope - just standard band type mech

    Hope HTII stainless BB

    FC-M771-K chainset

The only reason that I got him (LBS) to do it is that my shimano HTII tool kinda ruins the anodizing on the BB.. he has the cup kind that doesn't slip on mine. He did mention that the chainline may be out in which case the spacers would have to be moved around.

However he should have known about the BB widths
