Hey there. I live just south of Doncaster and am bored of solo riding as well. Fancy meeting up sometime for a bit of singletrack hunting?

me n a couple of mates usually get out one day in the week and also on Sunday morning, wandering around Armthorpe woods/pit top and over into Sandall Beat woods. Hoping to get further afield, Peaks, Sherwood Pines type of thing when we get chance. I'm usually about n wanting to get out anytime I can at the minute so if you fancy something non-strenuous let me know.

Singletrack? In Doncaster? If there is any I've not found it yet.

If any of the above posters want to get out and about then get back to me. I have MTB and Road bikes so either is good. I usually ride with a couple of mates locally a couple of times a week but I also like to go further afield whenever possible (which isn't very often at the minute). Just discovered the delights of Sherwood Pines, used to ride a lot in the Peak District (many years ago) and would love to get back into that again, have ridden Dalby Forest Red route but skill/confidence levels are not up to that and I have had recommendations for Glentress which I would LOVE to try but a 4 hour drive each way makes that a weekend away and with our first baby due in 2 months, I don't think she'll go for that..... :(

Fitness level could be described as moderate at best, but improving :)

    Where is everyone located?

I'm in Rossington. Have got a roady and a MTB, so either type of riding is cool with me.

Generally free most of the time - no kids and an understanding wife!!!! Can do evenings after work and weekends. Am thinking of having a run out to the coast on my roady tomorrow so Sunday could be a bit of a non-starter, but evenings next week are good for me if you're up for it.

OK, just by saying you're gonna have a ride to the coast tells me you're a LOT fitter than I am...... How far is that? What kinda speed you managing in the black stuff?

A run out to the coast?? sounds easy when you say it quick but bloody hell thats a long way LOL, do you go Bridlington or further down the east coast?
  • I'm in Edlington but haven't ridden seriously for about ten years. Would be classified as Clydesdale class and am so unfit, etc. Not sure if Extreme Sports still do their Wednesday might rides or not but it may be worth giving them a ring. Fitness levels need to be half decent for those rides (as I remember) which currently rules me out.

If you want to find local rides it's always worth picking up a OS map for the area. Explorers are probably your best bet as the detail is much greater than Landrangers.

Good advice but I've got the local OS maps. Most public access around here is Footpaths, there are very few bridleways, and being law abiding, responsible cyclists we wouldn't be found on footpaths, now would we.... :o/

  • When I used to live in Cantley (and was fit) I used to take the bridleway from SE610003 to SK573985 (Loversall). From there you can get to Wadworth & Edlington woods which have a few tracks in them or, if you're feeling energetic, carry on to the Conisbrough Parks area which has a lot more bridleways on offer.

Don't forget that we're allowed on BOATs, white roads, green lanes, forest tracks & paths, and RUPPs too. See this useful article.

  • I'm a very new MTB rider living in Hatfield and have been riding on Hatfield Moors (avoiding the wardens)

Its very flat, but its a ride, with a few bumps here and there, very quite

Also, ended up on the pit tops on Hatfield Main....not sure I was supposed to be there though

Anytime, anyone wants me to show them the routes I'm free most evenings; not massively fit yet but working on it

Hey all, I live in Bentley and have been riding for the last 2 years in and around Doncaster.

I used to live near sandal beat woods and have a decent route worked out around it anyone fancies trying it with me? Takes about 45 mins to go round but a bit longer if you stop at the dippers for jumps.

I mostly ride out from the boat inn up to the disused quarry at conisbrough for the jumps there. The surrounding woods have got some nice trails too and theres even a proper downhill track there thats been built recently if you have huge balls!

Planning a drive to sherwood pines with the bike one weekend soon too if anyone wants to join??

I usually go one night through the week and sundays when I'm not hungover! I'm 25 and would say of average fitness.

    Jay
I love the sound my tyres make on dusty single track!
  • Hi Jay,

I'm up for a bit of that, I'm an old bugger (40....ok 41!) but getting fitter and looking to improve my technique

Hi all, this is my 1st posting on here  Dont know if you are aware but you can get a free cycle map of Doncaster, with all different routes on. I got mine from the tourist info centre near to the Danum hotel on the High St.
I'm planning on going from where I live in Intake to Balby, Loversall, Bessacarr to Rossington, back past Hayfield lakes, Armthorpe back through sandall beat.
Also fancy doing some of the trans Peninne trail going North towards Selby one day.

You're still better off geting the OS Explorer map(s) for the Doncaster area(s) as they show all the bridleways, white roads, green lanes, byeways open to all traffic, cycle routes, and roads used as public paths that you're legally allowed to ride. Plus, with the topographic information, you can see what kind of terrain to expect as well.

  • If you get the Explorer map it'll be number 279. Or you can get the Landranger Sheffield & Doncaster number 111 map. Both about the same price.
