Used Tyres

I've just bought a new set of tyres, Spesh 'The Captain', as I have a slash in the sidewall of my current rear tyre. I've been using a Park tyre boot for about 3 months now and the boot has sliced through the inner tube under pressure alone!
So now I have my new tyres I am wondering what to do with the old ones, and previous slashed tyres now cluttering up my shed.
I learnt from my LBS yesterday that tyres (as well as going up in price recently due to the global cost of rubber) are now considered to be toxic waste and therefore cannot be thrown out with general household rubbish.
Does anyone have a proven fix for damaged tyres (slashed sidewalls etc.) or know of a recycling centre that will take them?
Cheers.

Bury them at the bottom of yer bin! (Who said that?)
or
Ride out into the countryside, find a beautiful, secluded spot and dump 'em there, like all the local scumbags do with their fridges round here!Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

Why not do what we did as kids , try tossing them over the tops of lamposts . meny hours of fun trying and you can't be done for littering as they will be there for years for other kids to play with0

On a serious note, contact the council and they'll tell you where your nearest recycling centre is, quite often in a carpark or at a garage, you can also recycle old oil etc if your that way inclined.0

Just leave them in the garage forever, in the hope that you might find a use for them one day.0

Local council tip, done. (also called Household waste recycleing centre)
Really dont get why people take fridges etc out onto the moors to dump when theres atleast 6 tips around various areas of Halifax that take your crap for free.0
