adapting hybrid for MTB

right then. I currently have a cheap dawes shuniah frame with v-brakes that i've added some basic components to (principally suspension forks) basic setup here http://www.bikemagic.com/review/reviewp ... 0328978590
However, i've also recently invested in a proper road bike and i currently have recently serviced hybrid (ridgeback tempest) which is altogether better specced than the dawes (lighter frame, chainset, cable discs, etc). 08 model here (although mine is 07) http://www.ridgeback.co.uk/index.php?bi ... _bike=TRUE
Is it possible/worth it to swap the new kit i've bought for the first bike (assuming it's compatible onto the hybrid and turn it into an MTB? Is it even a desirable thing to do, or should i just put the hybrid on ebay and continue lusting after the On-One/Lynskey Ti hardtail?
any thoughts?

dont try and make the hybrid into an MTB as it will not work.
BB too low, head angle will be too slack with a sus fork....."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

That was what i was afraid of. Nuts. next question - is it worth pulling all the higher spec componentry off the hybrid instead? I'm thinking wheels, brakes, the rear cassette & derailleur etc instead?point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0

why?
why not upgrade the MTB?
according to your link adding a cassette to the Hybrid would also need a new rear wheel and then some bodged means of mounting a derailleur and it does not look like there are the cable stops on the frame for a gear cable."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I'm talking about upgrading the MTB - taking the higher-specced componentry from the Ridgeback and putting it on the Dawes – cable stops, derailleurs, disc brake mounts etc are all fine – i've already checked them. My concern is that the performance gain will be minimal compared to the amount of effort involved.
TBH, i suspect that it's not worth it and i'm better off selling the ridgeback.point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0 -

missed your OFF the hybrid. but again from your link you would have problems. rigid fork, hub gears....
or do you mean a different version of the bike?
if so which."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

i think the ridgeback link must be going to a different bike for you - the ridgeback ain't got hub gears. It's derailleur gears. try this link instead. http://www.airevalleycycles.com/product ... b67s9p3600
mtb already has
Rockshox sus fork
New cranks/front chainrings
from previous upgrade work, but the wheels are knackered, it has v brakes and 7-sp rear cassette.
I would be transferring the following to the MTB
Cable disc brakes
wheelset
8sp rear cassette
rear derailleur
shifters
I'd leave the rigid forks on the hybrid frame.point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0 -
sell it and use the money to upgrade the MTB."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
