This is the best advice I can give! I got into bikes when I started commuting 8 years ago.... Started with a vernable old raleigh that was made out of railway sleepers and pig iron. I did this as I thought I needed the robust element... I felt the shame of the game early doors and decided I had to trade up and got a Dawes touring job that was too small for me and that I never cleaned....again I thought that anything less wouldn't take the hits.
Three years later with the Dawes dying I was convinced by a LBS guy to go the whole hog and get a proper road bike (and clean it a bit) that was big enough for me.
First time out of the traps I have my road to Damascus moment and POW I get the joke.It has coloured tyres, so if I get dropped by a hairy rsed roadie then I might as well jump off Putney bridge on the way home
This is a concern - you can always swap these out and keep them for "special". Remember you will BE a hairy arsed Roadie......
Colnago or death......!Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

Not strictly true, but having seen the price tag in the cold light of day, realising it's in pounds not dollars, I really, and I mean really cannot justify it. No matter what Ms Knightley may think...and while it might be nice to see if she can live up to her name , a cardboard box might not be the best location to test the theory
Anyway, been and had another look, and another chat, and at the moment I think it's going to be Trek 1.9 which although slightly heavier than the Felt Z35, looks better put together and thought out. Don't get me wrong the CF frame of the Z35, looks great, but I just worry that someone will crush a tube or damage it when I'm not around, something which is less likely with an aluminum frame
LeMond looks good, but the groupset is 105 not Ultegra, but it does have exotic (cf) bits in the frame.
So, I still really don't know which one I'll end up with0 -
Nice.
You might find those Bontrager wheels don't last the course (mine didn't) - See if you can get some Mavics instead....

very nice, Trek's look really smart.
When do you pick it up.
We will expect a full report on its merits in the near future.Specialised Epic MTB on slicks.

I'm still thinking about that CF Felt, but I don't think it's as well thought out as the Trek....I did have a cunning plan though...Apparently there is no date on the voucher....so our scheme finishes in August, but if I hang onto the voucher until September all the 09 bikes will start coming out, and the 08 ones will drop a bit in price....but then again this is like buying a computer, I think you know it's going to be superseded so you just have to bite the bullet and spend the money. Now I just have to work out what size I am...one shop said 54, the other 56. I'll give a third shop a god and see what they say0 -
I doubt the Trek bikes will drop in price, I have just got a 1.7 and when the new ones come out, they are likely to be about £100 higher in price with no additional spec, so the 08 models may still be in demand, and Trek don't seem to have very many left. I got told this by two different bike shops.
Not sure about the Felt bikes however. The Trek 1.7 is a very nice bike, though I don't really have anything to compare it to. Just do assume that as the 2009 bikes are out soon, the 2008 bikes will be discounted.0 -
I ride a cyclocross bike for my London commute. They make great all round bikes. Good on the road and its great to be able to go straight from road to tracks without any worries.
I have a titanium On One cross frame with ultegra and mavic wheels. I picked it up second hand but if I hadn't got this I was probably going to go for the focus cross disc.
