What's the difference between a braze on and a band on regarding front mech?

If your frame has a bracket attached(brazed on) to it where the front mech goes then you need a braze on mech.
If the frame doesn't have a bracket attached then you need a clip on mech. The clip being an integral part of the mech that fits around the seat tube. There are different sizes so measure the tube diameter.

Or if you already have a braze on mech you can buy a clip rather than a whole new clip on mech.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano

Braze on mechs are the best option I reckon because you always have the option of using a band on adapter which means if you ever swap frames in the future and get one with the braze on fittings you won't have to buy a new mech like you would if you had bought a band on one.
