HELP - Freewheel Problem I think
Hi all
Went to the LBS to get a new cassette fitted (I don't have the tools or the know how to do it myself) and have noticed that since then if the bike is stationarey and I back pedal the bike goes backwards slightly. I don't think it effects it when the bike has forward momentum but surely this should not be happening??
Any ideas for a quick fix? or is it back to the bike shop to sort it out? Is it really a problem or should I carry on regardless?
Any help appreciated.

Changing the cassette shouldn't have made a difference to drag in the freehub as the cassette goes over the freehub rather than requiring it to be removed. If you don't have the tools or knowhow to change the cassette, I'd suggest going back the the LBS - apart from anything else, you're likely to need to remove the cassette to get at the freehub.
I notice some drag when I pedal backwards on some of my bikes, less on others. It doesn't seem to slow me down when freewheeling downhill, so I don't worry about it.0 -
Nice one, thanks for the reply.
I don't think it really effects me or slows me down, just thought it was weird that it's started happening after a change of cassette.
It's also annoying when cleaning the chain as now when I start back pedalling so the chain goes through the cleaning rag, the bike moves backwards! I'll have to lift the bike off the ground i guess.0 -
Freehubs can fail and cost about £20 for replacement. A friend regulally washed her bike with a hose and washed the grease out of the freehub causing it to skip (fail to engage) sometimes. The freehub is the component that the cassette slides onto.
