Which wheels RS20 or Mavic Aksium
Hi,I have just purchased a Focus Cayo,I am very pleased with it and have already used it in anger on a hill climb event.
The standard wheels are Mavic Aksium Race(2008)
I have a set of practically new Shimano RS20's which I bought as an upgrde for my Giant SCR ltd (all day/winter bike)
Should I stick with the Mavics on the focus or are the RS20's a better/worse wheel and worth swapping onto the focus.
Thanks

they are probably pretty close in terms of performance .
if you are looking at selling one though then I'd imagine the aksiums would fetch a better price than the rs20's
Other wise it's always useful to have spares - perhaps thicker heavier tyres on one for winter / wet training days and lightweight ones on the other set for events ?0 -
The RS20s are apparently excellent wheels which will outperform the Askiums on many levels.
To quote a letter answered in the latest C+, 'The Shimano RS20s top that list (out of Aksiums, RS20s and Bontrager Race), the hubs can be serviced easily, the straight-pull spokes have a more modern appearance than the traditional elbowed variety and there are 20 at the rear and 16 at the front. The weight-saving red anodised aluminium nipples, normall reserved for handbuilt specials, make these wheels look more expensive than they are.'
I know they would get my vote!0 -
You can't really go wrong with either wheelset. In my experience, the aksiums don't need truing as much as they have a higher spoke count. In that sense, askiums are more suited to heavier riders.0

A bit off topic...
but I have the same bike and am saving up for some upgrades - What sort of budget should I be looking at to upgrade from these wheelsd, and notice a difference?
I'm 13.5 stone - so not a lightweight?0 -

£2000 -
£150 for some Fulcrum Racing 5s (which come with the Cayo's big brother, the Cayo Expert), which are renowned for their durability?0
