underwear on bikes

I've been cycling on the roads for about 7 months now, and have recently bought myself some padded shorts (fantastic invesment). This coincided with buying some new underwear for use when cycling or at the gym. However I am now getting spots around my crotch area. Is this due to the shorts or the underwear? Should I stop wearing the underwear beneath the shorts? Or can you recommend something else?

Thanks!

    Janet,

Never wear underwear under your padded cycling shorts! They will bunch and cause you all sorts of problems.
The only thing that should be between you and your shorts is a good slather of cream. Assos cream is excellent but expensive, Sudacreme (nappy rash cream) is cheap, easily available from your local chemist, and has worked for me for years. It's also anti bacterial and so helps heal any hotspots you may get.

PS Never wear your shorts on more than one occasion between washes.

    PPS Welcome to the forum!

  • Never put underwear on bikes as they may get caught in the cables or gears :D
