Freewheel quiery

Hi all

I need a new freewheel on my Boardman and I'm a bit confused as to what/where to get one from ?? According to the spec http://www.boardmanbikes.com/boardman_mtb_spec.pdf I have Formula disc hubs ?? Have I got to go to Halfords to get them to order a replacement or can I get an aftermarket one?

Freehub mechanism, or cassette? Your bike doesn't have a freewheel! (in the traditional sense of a screw on block)

oh yeah whats wrong? is the hub not engaging or just the cassettes worn?

on your bike if its the latter its an easy replacement but if its the earlier, its either a service or new hub.

This is a long story but a while ago I posted that I had a cracking noise from the drive somewhere and once I started trying to track it down I found that I had a badly worn chain so I fitted a new one. The problem then was that the gears went haywire as soon as I fitted it due to a worn rear cassette ! so I replaced it. Then I still had the cracking noise and when I was on the smallest front chain ring the new chain didnt seem to run smooth !! So I looked at getting a new chain ring. Before I ordered it I thought that I'd better check out the bottom bracket ect and found that the drive side bearing was rough so I bought a whole new chain set. BUT I Still had this occasional cracking bl**dy noise !!!!! Right My m8 has the same boardman as me and his freehub had gone really noisy so Halfords sorted him a replacement but he hadn't fitted it so I borrowed it to see if this was the source of my cracking noise GUESS WHAT sorted :evil: I have had this bike for 9 months now and have also replaced a bearing cone and bearings in the rear wheel and halfords said that previous problems were just wear and tear! If I go to them about the freehub I guess that they will say the same ? I only ride weekends and do about 40 to 60 miles so this is starting to get expensive! I do give it some welly though! No way am I paying for a new hub/wheel rebuild !!

Looks like a trip to Halfords is on the cards this morning

P.S the freehub is a sealed unit so cant take it apart

If it is the freehub, should be warranty. Not really a wear and tear item like other bearings.

Been into Halfords today and they have ordered me a new one F O C and I only had moan a little bit as well !
