I'm trying. I just woke up on the sofa after a 30 minute nap. It's hypnotic.

Soler just had another close shave with the barriers, misinterpreted a corner probably due to the haste of catching up with the peloton.

Soler comes in 3:01 down, although he'll probably make up double digit times once the mountains kick in.
  • I'm disappointed to see Valv.piti win. He was my bet on the scandal pundit for this race.

But why, surely it's too early to be in yellow?

Valv always tries to win. And it sends a message.

Good sprint by him - Showed his class.

  • Was by no means a classic, but I didn't expect much form the first stage. As mentioned above- Valv is sending a message.

Great sprint from Valverde, he closed the gap to Grim Kim in style.

Pleased for him too, it annoys me how he gets loads of abuse from fans despite many other probable naughty lads getting a free ride. And it will annoy the increasingly po-faced fella who writes cyclingfansanonymous.

nope he is just a useless bike handler .... What the hell was he doing at the back of the bunch anyway...Any top rider worth his salt knows how bad the back of the bunch is during the first few days - crash after crash

I guess he can lose yellow tomorrow by his finishing position and not lose any time. Can anyone confirm?

In order to lose it he'd have to be gapped by the winner. So he might keep it until the TT unless there is a successful break.

Hmmm, or you could be right. I thought I'd read he'd got a 1s lead somewhere.

Although, he could keep it in the TT too if the Dauphine was anything to go by.

Won't they countback finishing places? Or does the current yellow keep it regardless if the time is the same? could be a long week for Caisse.

They have just given him the 1sec lead on the offical site therefore he will have to lose time to lose yellow now. Tactical error to lead from the off with no time bonuses this year, in my opinion.

He was given a second advantage at the end. Therefore, if no breaks succeed then there will have to be a split in the main group for anyone to take the yellow jersey before the TT. If a split occurs due to a crash then it depends how close to the finish it was - is 3km or 1km the point at which if there is a crash thereafter then you get the same time as the main group? Quite a nice one for Valverde actually as it means the sprinters' teams will do the pulling back and he'll take the jersey even though he probably doesnt really care that much about keeping it.
