Is the cassette/chain/chainring worn?0
-
nope new bike done under 50 miles came with lx rear cassette and shimano chain hand a new chain and xt cassette in the cupboard so fitted this in the hope it would stop the gears skiping but it is still going it!! could it be due to chain length??0
-
Assuming the hanger is straight, and the cables free flowing, then most likely fine adjustment.
When using the front large chainring, you shouldn't be using the largest rear cogs - it puts the chain at an angle which can cause it to skip0 -
hanger is true cables fine lube and clean!! it dose it in almost every gear when using the largest front ring and some times middle ring too
will chain length effect it?0 -
Well, the chain length needs to be correct to ensure all the gears can be accessed, and that isn't too slack in certain combos.
If the bike is new, and you bought it locally, I'd take it back. Though from new the cable stretches a bit and can put the hgear s out of whack. It maybe that a bit more tebnsion is required. But without seeing it in the flesh, not much more I can say!0 -
ok maybe a trip to my local bike shop is in need then cheers for your advice supersonic0

after my new build all the gears went like this after around 50 miles, found the cable tension needed adjusting slightly due to cables stretching etc
few tweaks here and there and bobs your uncle0 -
i have read alot of reviews about the shimano xt rear mech which is what i am running and alot of them say they cant get it set up right and they get ghost shifting which is whats happening to me!! anyone else had this??0
-
I had this on my bike, took it to my local bike shop and got them tuned up, been ok since 8)0

i have tryed this been twice and is still happening0

got an xt rear mech and mine is fine. it may be something as simple as a little turn of the barrel adjuster on the shifter or a pull of the gear cable to increase tension. really sounds like cable tenision0

is yours the shadow version?0
-
i've just got a rockhopper comp with the xt shadow rear mech and my gears were jumping about like crazy, an hour of tweaking and everything is now silky smooth0
