i have one on my 222 and im finding it very under powered, i have to 2 finger brake to slow it enough or slide it. Is this a common thing with the old hopes? Or should i get it looked at by someone that knows what their doing?

cheers

so is it then a one piece Mono MINI?

or is it a 2 piece MINI as it has a MINI rotor on it.

old mono minis are black and are made out of one piece.

    is it like this?

If it is 2 piece then it can't be a mono. Mono meaning one piece

Looks just like my mini to me. To clarify, the Mini was a two piston two piece design. The Mono Mini was its successor I think - a one piece, two piston design with a screw in cap to allow you to get at the pistons.

Until I messed it up (contaminated pads I think) my front mini (185mm rotor) was easily powerful enough to put me over the bars with one finger although I tend to use two on fast descents for better control.
But that is on a xc bike - that bike doesn't look very xc to me....

I have a bike fitted with hope mini brakes and they really like a complete flushing through with fresh dot 5.1 brake fluid every year it makes a hell of a difference

erm, looks like the 'open' version of the C2, if that makes any sense. I think that means it's a mini, right?

I've got a 7 year old HOPE mini front thats got the same oil in from day one and is still perfect in fact it's like a good wine it get's better with age , think it's a bit of a mypth you have to change every year. The rear is also a mini and thats been changed twice due to that stupid little pin that rounded off on me when replacing the pads and i have to strip it down every time i change pad's

OK so we seem to be decided onthat it is a MINI now what number is it? IE: what is the disc size on the rear?

Nick, you of all people should know it's not a Mini.
A Mini is one of those things in your avatar.

sorry my mistake it is a mini, its a 160mm rotor on the rear, the standard one that comes with it

It sounds like contaminated or glazed pads to me.
Try changing them and cleaning the rotor with isopropyl alcohol.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

if the lever is firm and there is no power at any time then as above.

If it is ok and then goes off in use and if it is an early mini (pre Phenolic pistons and inserts) you could just be cooking it.

So options, clean and new pads. Or clean and new pads and a bigger disc with adapter....
