Being the proud new owner of my first full suss and lovingly washing it after every ride, is there any benefit long term to be gained by using polish on the frame... if so, what sort works best?

I met a bloke recently who swore by it...

I don't see any reason why polishing it wouldn't be a benefit. I recently acquired a tin of muc off polish (as it came free) and have yet to try it. In theory though as long as you don't use too much or get it in and on areas like discs, you're building up a protective covering that helps (if you believe the tin) to repel dirt, water etc and make it easier to clean.

Personally I just like shiny bikes and want to keep my steed in tip top condition. The paint work will dull and scratch and polish can revive it.

Certain car washing solution contain a small amount of polish/ wax to begin with and I have read of recommendations of pledge.

Try it and see..... but always in a secluded place ;)
  • I polish my Orange 5 regularly, it's an absolute doddle to clean, although i still take longer than I need to! It also seems to stop the lighter scratches from branches and the like. The only thing is, cleaners like FS1 and the like will remove the polish and you'll have to apply it again.

On my Stumpjumper which is annodized, I find that a wipe over with a WD40 soaked rag, gives it a nice shine and a slippery coating.

My hardtail doesn't get much love I'm afraid!
