The cars and Vans I mean
The traffic this week cycling to/from work has been far lighter than normal along my commute (East London/ Embankment)
Its not the school holidays yet, although many scholars have finished their exams
Could it be the effect of the fuel price increases?
Or is everyone staying off work to watch Wimbledon (apparently this week has highest rate of unauthorised absence from work than any other time of year)?
I've seen more people on bikes this week than normal (It could be the weather)
Are Parents not driving their precious little children the 250 yards from home to school to save fuel
or what?

A lot of people I work with that don't have children have been going on their holidays over the last couple of weeks. Pre-school holiday prices, but still Summer. I guess that could have some impact on things. Some parents take their kids out of school at this time too, post-exams but before the prices shoot up.
All guesses, but may make a difference.
I have noticed the bus stops getting busier round here lately. Previously, most bus stops were deserted or might have one old dear waiting. Yesterday, the bus stop near where I work (an industrial estate near Macclesfield) had about ten people waiting. Very unusual previously.0 -

Hmm Yes
I hadn't thought re holidays for those w/out kids etc
You are right re the bus stops. They do seem to be busier this week
I am starting to think the fuel crisis is reducing care use.
I have to drive the length of the country tonight- wonder how quiet ( relatively) the roads will beWant to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

Very quiet in Carlisle too. I suppose 6th formers are finished so thats a few less cars. But I think OAP's and the like are now not doing unnecessary journeys everyday. The first rule of cycling is - Tell everyone how great cycling is.

Could it be the "stingers" I've been putting under their tyres? Just kidding.
Its been hot here, plus loads of roadworks - so quite quiet on the roads here! 8) Funny thing is when it gets REALLY hot they get back in their cars and switch the aircon on. I myself have natural aircon0
