Hi,
Fairly new to MTB's and just bought my first decent bike the Trek 6500 disc, not ridden it yet but have notice initial slack in the RockShox Tora 302 Solo Air forks. If i push the fork down without sitting on the bike it doesn't seem to rebound back fully leaving a bit of slack that is only taken up if i lift the front wheel off the ground ?
i have set up the air to the correct pressure according to the fork guide, i have even reduce and increased the pressure but nothing seems to remove this slight slack in the fork returning back to its full extension.
Is this due to it being new and the bike not being ridden yet ? or will this disappear with time or should i take it back to the shop ?
I have also measured the forks and it show 110mm travel but states 100mm, is this normal ?
Any advice would be appreciated !
Cheers

the forks need to bed in.
set the air to give the sag you need and go ride."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

As above. I just thought I'd add that. It's true though. Sag.0

Also on the bottom of the fork (left stanchion) there is a rebound adjust - there is a picture of a hare and a turtle on a red label. Obviously turning the knob on the bottom towards the hare will make the fork rebound quicker, turning towards the turtle it will be slower. Having said this, im not sure if this appears on the 302 solo air, i am currently riding the 318's.
Hope it helps0 -
OK, thanks for the advice, i'll give it a run out tonight. Yes the 302 does have the rebound adjust and i have alter the setting but made no difference. Cheers0

No worries. But also, just to confirm the point made above, any fork you ride should have some sag - usually about 20% of the total travel of the fork. this applies to front and rear suspension.0

More sag on downhill forks, less on XCMe like trials biking me do0

The rock shox manual states between 15 to 25 % sag. Cheers0

I bought some Tora 302 Sola airs for my girlfriend's bike and they do exactly the same thing. Recently got a new bike with Rockshox Pikes (dual air) and they do the same thing too! Must be a Rockshox thing. I don't notice it when I'm riding though.

Just ride it and see how they feel. There's going to be a bit of stiction on the legs, especially when brand new.If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!0
